postheadericon A little vacation!

We took the last week of May off to fly to LA to visit our son Dusty.  It was alot of work preparing everything for the cows so that we would feel comfortable leaving for a week!  We bought a few bales of hay so we could keep them in the winter paddocks while we were gone.  Before we left, we gave them a taste of the new Spring grasses and they loved it!  Now that we’re back we can get them out there again.  All went well while we were away- we had my brother, a couple nephews and our son Cody keep an eye on them.  We put two feeders out with a couple extra bales surrounded by electric fence.  When they ran out, they just had to remove the fence to feed them.  The water tank was switched over to keep-fill with a pressure pump so that they always had water.  It was 95 degrees and humid the last few days before we left, so we were happy to have them in the paddock with the shed and trees for shade.  We didn’t expect any more calves- the Angus are due around mid June-July.  We were disappointed that we only got 2 Wagyu calves, but, I guess that’s a start anyway!  And, we should get about 6-8 Angus calves soon.  In a month or so we are selling our four steers, and probably 3 or 4 Cow/Calf pairs.  We need to get the numbers down a little so we don’t have so many over the winter.  Below are some cool photo’s from our vacation- we had a blast!!  Dusty is loving the California life!  I wouldn’t mind it except for the horrible traffic!
